Before you begin
Disable starting energy before reaching below a deck. Support raised equipment with rated stands and protect your hands from blades.
Start here
Inspect the cut pattern before washing or adjusting. A low stripe, ragged tips, missed grass, vibration, and poor discharge are different complaints.
Uneven cutting height
- Equalize tire pressure and wheel-height settings before deck adjustment.
- Remove buildup that changes airflow or prevents the deck from sitting correctly.
- Inspect for a bent, worn, loose, or incorrectly installed blade; use the model's torque value for installation.

Excessive vibration
- Stop immediately rather than running the machine to see whether it improves.
- Inspect the blade, adapter, fastener, spindle, and visible deck damage.
- Check accessible engine and deck mounting points against model service information.

Poor discharge or clumping
- Account for wet or tall grass, fast travel, and cutting height before blaming parts.
- Check deck cleanliness, discharge opening, blade condition and type, and belt condition where fitted.
- After repair, compare a safe test cut with the original pattern.
Stop and reassess when
- A blade is cracked, bent, loose, or has struck a solid object.
- A spindle has visible damage or play.
- The deck or engine mounting structure is cracked.
