Before you begin
Never run a generator indoors, in a garage, or near openings. Disconnect every load before starting.
Start here
Move the generator outdoors on level ground and unplug all cords and appliances.
Fuel and controls
- Confirm the selected gasoline, propane, or natural-gas source matches the model and selector position.
- Open the fuel valve fully and put the engine switch in RUN/ON.
- Use full choke for a cold engine and less for a warm engine as the manual directs.

Oil, plug, and air
- Check oil on level ground; low-oil protection can prevent starting.
- Seat the spark-plug boot and inspect the plug against engine specifications.
- Replace or service a restricted air filter by its specified method.

Electric start
- Check battery cables for clean, tight connections.
- Use only the charging procedure supported by that generator.
- If recoil start works, keep the battery/start-circuit diagnosis separate from engine fuel and ignition.

Stop and reassess when
- Fuel or exhaust is present in an enclosed area.
- Fuel leaks or overheated wiring is present.
- The next step requires live output testing.
